Battery Care Tips:
- New batteries come in a discharged state. Run your battery through at least 2 to 3 charge/discharge cycles before placing it in service. This means fully charging your battery when received, operate the battery on your particular application until it advises of low voltage or doesn't work anymore, and then repeat the process at least 2 to 3 times more. After each charge/discharge cycle, you should see an increase in your operating time.
- Sometimes when initially charging a new battery, it may only charge for 5 or 10 minutes before the charger indicates that the battery is fully charged. If this should happen, remove the battery from the charger and reinsert it to start another charge cycle. This is a common occurrence with new battery packs.
- If you plan on not using your battery, or placing your battery in storage for a month or longer we recommend removing the battery from your device (ie: radio, laptop, etc.) and storing the battery in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight. You will need to take the battery out of storage every month or two for recharging to keep it activated.
- When charging a battery, it is normal for it to become warm to the touch.
- If a battery is unused (stored), it will eventually lose its charge. This is also known as self-discharging.
- Rechargeable batteries will perform better when trickle charged, and will help extend the life of the battery. Rapid or quick charging can be used with NiCad, NiMH and Li-ION batteries, but you must be sure that your charger can handle the cell chemistry. Please check with the original manufacturer of the charger to determine if your cell chemistry is compatible with their charger.
- To calculate charge time for your battery, you can use the following equations:(Note: These formulas can only be used for individual cells and packs without a circuit board in them. This also applies to packs that are charged through another device such as a radio or laptop.)
- Slow charge: (cell capacity in mAh / charger output in mA) x 1.4 = time in hours
- Fast charge: (cell capacity in mAh / charger output in mA) x 1.5 = time in hours
